Steelers Defense Adds Melvin Ingram
3 years agoThe Pittsburgh Steelers and free-agent edge rusher Melvin Ingram agreed to a one-year deal on Monday. Ingram spent his entire nine-year career with the Los Angeles Chargers, posting 49 sacks and earning three trips to the Pro Bowl. The Steelers are looking for Ingram to help fill the defensive end spot opposite T.J. Watt that was previously held by Bud Dupree, who left via free agency to join the Tennessee Titans this offseason. Ingram will reportedly compete with second-year player Alex Highsmith in training camp to open the year as the starter. Ingram struggled with a knee injury in 2020, appearing in just seven games (zero sacks), which played into the Chargers allowing him to leave in free agency. The 32-year-old pass-rusher also ended the 2019 campaign on Injured Reserve. If Ingram is healthy in 2021, he will add to what is already expected to be one of the top fantasy defenses this season. The pass-rushing spot opposite Watt will be highly scrutinized in the preseason, but either way, fantasy managers will likely be taking the Steelers D as one of the first few defensive units off the board after they finished first in fantasy points in Yahoo leagues in 2020.
