Steelers Expect Fierce Quarterback Competition
3 years agoAppearing on the Rich Eisen Show on Wednesday, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin gave his take on what to expect from his quarterback room in camp. "I expect it to be fierce, because I know all three guys [Trubisky, Rudolph, Pickett], I don't expect anyone to take a back seat," said Tomlin. When pressed on whether 20th overall pick Kenny Pickett would have a chance to win the job, Tomlin added "We played four rookies on offense last year because they were deserving. Certainly, he's [Pickett] not going to be excluded from the opportunity [of starting]." Pickett will be 24 years old to start his rookie year, and Tomlin praised his pro-readiness in terms of anticipation and accuracy as reasons they selected him in Round 1. With a fairly modest salary commitment to quarterback Mitchell Trubisky at $14 million over two years, Pickett should have a very real opportunity to win the starting job to begin the season.
