Steelers Tab Teryl Austin As New Defensive Coordinator
3 years agoThe Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to finalize a deal with Teryl Austin to make him the team's new defensive coordinator, replacing Keith Butler, according to a source. Austin previously served as the senior defensive assistant and secondary coach. He previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals and also coached defensive backs for the Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens. Austin is entering his fourth year in Pittsburgh and 19th in the NFL. Just a few days ago, the New York Giants requested an interview with Austin for their open defensive coordinator position, but Austin chose to stay with the Steelers. The 56-year-old was viewed as a favorite for Pittsburgh's position all along.
