Steelers Want James Conner To Return To Featured Role
4 years agoPittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that he wants running back James Conner to return to a "featured runner" role in 2020. Conner operated, and thrived in that role in 2018 and was set to do so again in 2019 before suffering through a variety of injuries that limited him to 10 games. With much of the NFL going to a committee approach at the running back position, Mike Tomlin stills prefers to lean on a lead back. While addressing the RB position to the media on Thursday, Tomlin stated, “I’m a featured-runner type guy by mentality." The Steelers used a fourth-round pick on Maryland running back Anthony McFarland Jr. and still have second-year runner Benny Snell Jr. around, but the lead role appears to be Conner's when the season opens. Conner could have a low-end RB1 season left in him for fantasy purposes if he can stay on the field this season, making him a solid value in drafts.
