7 years agoUsing the words “Steven Matz” and “excellent outing” in the same sentence seems like a rarity these days, but the New York Mets pitcher has a chance string together two in a row for the first time in a long time on Friday night in Philadelphia. Against the Colorado Rockies last Saturday, Matz allowed only one earned run across six innings pitched while striking out five and walking only one, a very encouraging start for the very talented but oft-injured and inconsistent southpaw. The key word there is “inconsistent”, meaning chances are Matz won’t repeat that outing against a tough Phillies lineup in a hitters ballpark. If Matz does find success in this one, though, he may be worth fantasy consideration as it would be the second consecutive game he pitched well against a tough offense.--John Smith
