7 years agoAfter being the benefactor of some good luck over his last two starts (two earned runs allowed across 11 innings pitched), the thought seemed to be that New York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz would be a victim of regression at some point soon. That point came on Saturday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Matz allowed four earned runs on six hits and a walk in only four innings pitched; he only struck out two on the evening. The fact here is, Matz is inducing next-to-no soft contact and isn’t striking anybody out. Those two things need to change if he’s ever going to come close to meeting his potential.--John Smith
