Struggles Continue For Jeff McNeil
3 years agoNew York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil went 1-for-5 with a run scored in the Mets 9-4 win over the Marlins on Tuesday. McNeil also left three runners on base as his season-long struggles continued. Though McNeil has, at times, shown signs of breaking out during the course of the 2021 season, he has yet to find any consistency at the plate. Now heading into mid-September, it's safe to say McNeil has been a huge bust given his pre-season ADP of 98. Coming into 2021, it was expected that McNeil had a high floor and was a safe bet for a .310 batting average, a .380 on-base percentage, 10-to-15 HR, and 70-to-80 RBI. He has greatly underachieved based on those pre-season expectations. Over 100 games and 328 at-bats, McNeil is hitting just .247/.317/.351 with six home runs, 32 RBI, 16 doubles, and 39 runs scored. Over the last month (30 games), McNeil has been even worse, slashing .182/.226/.232 with no home runs and just seven RBI over 99 AB. Fantasy managers in redraft formats can safely drop McNeil at this point. Those fantasy managers in dynasty formats should hold onto McNeil and chalk 2021 up to a down year/aberration based on his consistent performances from 2018-2020. There were no signs that McNeil would regress to this point beyond, perhaps, lower HR totals heading into 2021. As such, fantasy managers in dynasty formats should remain patient and not be too quick to sell low in case an underlying/ undisclosed injury has been the cause of McNeil's issues in 2021.
