T.J. Rivera Hopes To Return By May
7 years agoNew York Mets infielder T.J. Rivera (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery on his injured right elbow in September, but he has been progressing nicely and hopes to return in May. Rivera has had a solid couple of years for the Mets, slashing .290/.330/.430 with five home runs and 13 doubles in 73 games in 2017 prior to partially tearing his UCL. While Rivera isn’t going to set the world on fire, he’s worth mentioning because he could very well end up taking the starting second or third base jobs when he returns if the Mets don’t find steady solutions this offseason. With his positional eligibility -- Rivera played first base, second base, third base and the outfield last year -- he could turn into a nice multi-positional borderline fantasy asset if he builds upon the spurts of success we’ve seen out of him in his career thus far.
