T.J. Rivera Returning From Tommy John Surgery On Thursday
6 years agoNew York Mets infielder T.J. Rivera (elbow) will make his return on Thursday, serving as the designated hitter for High-A St. Lucie. Rivera tore his UCL in 2017 and tried to rehab the injury prior to surgery but eventually opted for Tommy John surgery, which he underwent last September. Rivera played in 73 games last season, manning a plethora of positions -- first, second and third base plus some outfield. He slashed a solid .290/.330/.430 over that time, knocking in five home runs with 13 doubles and 27 RBI. Rivera would make for an ideal replacement for fellow infielder Wilmer Flores on the main roster if Flores is traded, as has been rumored.
