Taylor Heinicke To Compete For Starting Job?
3 years agoThe Washington Football Team signed quarterback Taylor Heinicke to a two-year contract this past offseason after he turned some heads in the 2020 playoffs. After starting in the playoffs, Heinicke was a pleasant surprise for Washington. He threw for 306 yards and one touchdown while adding 46 rushing yards and another touchdown on the ground in the loss to the eventual Super Bowl champions. Going into the 2021 season, Ryan Fitzpatrick is the overwhelming favorite to start after working with the first-team offense all offseason. However, as training camp looms, there will be competition for the starting job. "They are going to compete, they are going to push, and I'm looking forward to it." said head coach Ron Rivera. It is Fitzpatrick's job to lose at the moment, but Heinicke will be given an opportunity to once again showcase his ability. Heinicke will hold no fantasy value unless he is able to win the starting job or if Fitzpatrick is injured at any point this year. If Heinicke becomes the starter at any point, he could make for an interesting weekly streaming option due to his rushing ability.
