2 years agoSan Diego Padres skipper Bob Melvin said that closer Taylor Rogers told him he was good to go and eager to close on Wednesday, when he blew his second straight save chance in a loss against the Detroit Tigers. The Padres didn't go with left-hander Adrian Morejon because he hasn't pitched in a save situation. However, Melvin said "maybe down the road" the team will take a look at making a change in the ninth inning. Rogers is currently tied for the MLB lead with the Milwaukee Brewers' Josh Hader with 28 saves, but he's also 1-5 with a 4.35 ERA and has allowed 10 earned runs on 17 hits while striking out 11 and walking two in 9 2/3 innings in the month of July. Morejon has never saved a game in his four MLB seasons, and there's a good chance Nick Martinez (four saves this year) or Luis Garcia will get first crack at save chances if Rogers is eventually demoted.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
