6 years agoIt took much longer than anyone expected, but New York Mets first baseman Dominic Smith has finally been called up for good (or so, we think). Smith gets the call to the bigs after the Mets released first baseman Adrian Gonzalez on Monday, finally acknowledging a completely failed experiment. Unfortunately, Smith hasn’t done much in awhile to get anyone excited. After slashing .330/.386/.519 with 16 home runs in 500 plate appearances for Triple-A Las Vegas in 2017, Smith somehow turned himself into an afterthought. He could only muster a .658 OPS in 183 plate appearances in the Majors last year, and has put up a meager .260/.343/.370 slash line with only two home runs in Triple-A this season. Of course, now he also has prospect Peter Alonso breathing down his back at the position with the monster year he's having for Double-A Binghamton. Smith is worth holding onto in dynasty formats of course, but we don’t expect there to be much value in redraft leagues this year.--John Smith
