Tommy Romero Designated For Assignment By Rays

2 years agoThe Tampa Bay Rays designated right-handers Tommy Romero and Kevin Herget for assignment on Tuesday to make room for right-hander JT Chargois (oblique), who was reinstated from the injured list. Left-hander Brendan McKay (shoulder) was also reinstated from the 60-day injured list, but he was then optioned to Triple-A Durham. Romero made his first three major league appearances (one start) earlier this year, allowing four earned runs on three hits while walking five and striking out five in 4 2/3 innings. The 25-year-old also struggled as a starter in the minors and had a 3.51 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 58 strikeouts and 25 walks in 66 2/3 frames over 23 outings (13 starts) at Durham.
