Trevor Lawrence Not Ready To Be Named Starting Quarterback?
3 years agoJacksonville Jaguars star rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence has been progressing well in offseason workouts, but head coach Urban Meyer doesn't believe that he's ready to be named the starter. Meyer said of Lawrence, "He's not ready yet, but he doesn't have to be ready yet.. he's probably advanced maybe a little quicker than we would've thought, which was a positive. He's got a really good work ethic and he's progressed very well." Analyzing Meyer's quote, it seems like this is more posturing than anything else. Meyer seems to be pleased with Lawrence's progression and wants to keep him motivated before naming him the starter. Lawrence's talent is supreme, but rookie quarterbacks are never a sure thing in fantasy circles. Expect the Jaguars offense to be fairly run-heavy given the rhetoric from the coaching staff, which includes offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, who has historically leaned on the run. Lawrence projects as a QB2 in his rookie season, but his elite talent gives him QB1 upside should the Jaguars opt to air it out as the season progresses.
