3 years agoOn Monday, New York Mets relief pitcher Trevor May picked up his second save in as many days closing out the Mets 15-11 win over the Reds in 11 innings. May was called on to get the final two outs of the game in the 11th inning after closer Edwin Diaz blew yet another save in the ninth inning earlier in the evening. May recorded the final two outs, including one by strikeout, and picked up his third save of the season. Though May has had a somewhat inconsistent season in 2021 fraught with occasional control issues, his overall numbers remain solid. He has posted a 3.31 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP, to go with seven holds, three saves, and 47 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings pitched. While it is unlikely May will supplant the massively struggling Diaz as closer, May could get called upon more frequently in save situations for the Mets in the short term given his clutch performance the past two games. The Mets may want to move Diaz to a lower leverage role over the next few outings to get his mojo back. This would open up the door for May to see more save opportunities in the next week or so. Managers in desperate need of saves may want to take a flyer on May if he is available. In leagues that reward holds, May should already be rostered.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
