4 years agoAfter a rough beginning to the 2021 season and his tenure with the Mets, New York Mets reliever Trevor May has managed to turn things around nicely. On Tuesday, May added to his rebound by throwing a clean eighth inning. Over his one inning of work in the Mets' 2-1 loss to Boston, he recorded two strikeouts and did not allow a base runner. May has now had six straight appearances in which he has not allowed an earned run. Over this timeframe, he has seen his ERA decline from 13.50 to 2.84, and his WHIP drop from 3.75 to 1.42. Additionally, May has posted elite metrics in 2021 which include a 0% barrel rate, a 1,74 xERA, a .219 xwOBA, and a 37% strikeout rate, all of which are in the top-10% for all of MLB. May will remain the primary set-up man to Edwin Diaz for the early part of the 2021 campaign, with Seth Lugo (elbow) still on the injured list.
