Trevor Plouffe Told He Will Not Make Opening Day Roster
7 years agoThe Athletic's Levi Weaver reports that the Texas Rangers have told third baseman Trevor Plouffe that he will not make the Opening Day roster and will be designated for assignment. The veteran said when he signed that he was not expecting to accept a minor league assignment, but it is unclear if he has changed his tune in the weeks since. Plouffe has struggled this spring training, hitting just .194/.265/.323 and a single home run over 31 at-bats. The lack of pop from a presumed power bat does not inspire confidence, and with better options in Adrian Beltre, Jurickson Profar, and 25-year old Hanser Alberto, Plouffe does not appear to have any opportunity or fantasy value going forward.
