4 years agoThe Oakland Athletics and relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal are in agreement on a one-year, $11 million contract, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. Rosenthal figures to slot into the closer role after Liam Hendriks departed Oakland in free agency. Rosenthal was superb last season, converting 11 of 12 save chances with a 1.90 ERA and 0.85 WHIP between his time with the Royals and Padres. He only pitched 23 2/3 innings, but his peripheral numbers show the kind of upside Rosenthal possesses, as he posted a 41.8 percent strikeout rate and was in the 99th percentile in xERA and xBA. Rosenthal struggled mightily in 2019, though, so he carries some risk in fantasy, but he should get the first crack at saves in Oakland. Jake Diekman and J.B. Wendelken will handle setup duties and would be the top options in the ninth inning if Rosenthal falters.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
