Trey Lance Throws For 164 Yards, Adds 54 Rushing Yards
2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance completed 13 of 28 passing attempts for 164 yards and one interception in his team's season-opening loss to the Bears on a rain-soaked Soldier Field. He also carried the ball 13 times for 54 yards, leading the team. The Niners took a 7-0 lead after Lance drove the team 52 yards at the beginning of the second quarter, then they added a field goal to start the third quarter. But Chicago responded with two consecutive touchdown drives, and Lance threw an interception in the Niners own territory on the next drive that set up Chicago for its final touchdown. Growing pains are to be expected for the young quarterback, whom the Niners traded up to draft third overall last year. It was encouraging to see his arm strength on display, as Lance completed a 44-yard pass to Jauan Jennings, a 31-yard pass to Brandon Aiyuk and a 20-yarder to Ray-Ray McCloud III. Lance's fantasy managers should be ready for more disappointments this season, but his Week 2 matchup against the Seahawks could be smoother sailing.
