3 years agoSan Francisco 49ers rookie running back Trey Sermon was limited to one carry for seven yards during a 17-10 Week 5 loss against the Arizona Cardinals. Sermon was hardly given an opportunity during the 49ers' third consecutive loss on Sunday, turning his lone carry into seven yards late in the game. With the ambiguous running-back-by-committee approach Kyle Shanahan implements, including the rushing upside of rookie quarterback Trey Lance, Sermon should be left out of starting lineups for the foreseeable future. Fellow rookie running back Elijah Mitchell appears to be the trusted RB1 when healthy, while the pending return of Jeff Wilson makes Sermon a mere afterthought in the offense.--Matt MacKay - RotoBaller
