Trey Sermon Rushes For 20 Yards With Roster Spot On The Line
2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers running back Trey Sermon rushed for 20 yards on eight carries in Thursday's 17-0 loss to the Houston Texas in the preseason finale. Before the game, KNBR San Francisco reportedly called the second-year back a player "on the roster bubble." He didn't do much to inspire confidence. It was his third-straight preseason game with less than three yards per carry. He also missed a critical block that resulted in QB Trey Lance getting hit as he threw. Elijah Mitchell, Jeff Wilson Jr., and rookie Tyrion Davis-Price should be assured roster spots. It will come down to Sermon, JaMycal Hasty, and Jordan Mason for the final spot on San Francisco's RB depth chart. With six running backs on the 49ers roster and many of them shining in the preseason, Sermon's place on the roster is uncertain. Sermon will learn his fate by August 30, when all 32 NFL teams must make their final roster cuts.
