2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers running back Trey Sermon rushed for eight yards on five carries in Saturday's 17-7 preseason Week 2 win over the Minnesota Vikings. It was the second-straight disappointing preseason outing for Sermon, the 49ers' third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The 23-year-old has started both preseason games, while starter Elijah Mitchell and No. 2 running back Jeff Wilson Jr. were inactive. In those games, Sermon has rushed for 19 yards on 11 carries. Backups further down the depth chart, such as Tyrion Davis-PriceJordan Mason, and JaMycal Hasty, have been significantly more effective this preseason. The 49ers running back room is considered to be fluid, and Sermon's struggles could downgrade his chances to win a significant role as a backup.--Mitchell Blatt - RotoBaller
