Ty Montgomery Appears to Maintain Prominent Role
7 years agoAccording to ESPN reporter Rob Demovsky, Green Bay Packers running back Ty Montgomery hasn’t lost any ground to fellow running backs Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones over the course of organized team activities. Montgomery was Green Bay’s featured running back going into the 2017 season before a rib injury and a subsequent wrist injury essentially ended his year. Both Williams and Jones showed promise when they were given a chance to fill in for Montgomery. However, Montgomery is the most versatile of the three backs, a trait that head coach Mike McCarthy values. Montgomery started the 2017 year strong but slowed down a bit after it appeared he tweaked his ankle. Although there are injury concerns for Montgomery, who has struggled to stay healthy even when he played wide receiver, neither of the other two backs on the roster have shown much of a propensity for health either. It likely won’t be until late in the offseason that a clear view on each player’s role will be available.
