6 years agoGreen Bay running back Ty Montgomery took some reps returning kickoffs in Monday’s practice. Green Bay’s incumbent return man, wide receiver Trevor Davis (hamstring) missed practice. Rookie wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling also took some reps. Montgomery is almost certainly not going to be Green Bay’s return man in 2018. There are more effective options on the roster and it would put a lot of wear on an injury-prone player. However, this can’t be a good sign for how Green Bay views him. The common assumption for 2018 was that Ty Montgomery would only see snaps in obvious passing plays and be used situationally. Yet, we hadn’t seen much proof that this would be his role. Montgomery getting some work with the special teams unit is a sign that Green Bay doesn’t foresee a large workload for him. A slight confirmation of exactly what many had predicted.--Tyger McGuiggan
