7 years agoWith normal closer Roberto Osuna placed on administrative leave for an undetermined amount of time, the fantasy community has been wondering who would now be the ninth inning pitcher of choice for the Toronto Blue Jays. While many speculated Ryan Tepera would be the man of the hour, he did not get the first crack. That honor went to Tyler Clippard in a 5-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Wedneday, allowing one hit and striking out a pair for his first save of the season. Clippard hasn’t been very good in recent years, but has hung around the Major Leagues and was nonetheless an effective closer in 2015 for the Oakland Athletics prior to being traded to the New York Mets. Toronto manager John Gibbons said the Jays wouldn’t be using a set closer, but you can be sure if Clippard pitches effectively, he’ll see the majority of chances. As of Thursday, Clippard should be treated as a must-own, while Tepera can be a speculative pick-up if you have the roster space.--John Smith
