3 years agoMilwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Tyler Gillies threw off a real mound on Saturday for the first time in more than two years since a cancer diagnosis (Hodgkin's lymphoma) threatened his career and his life. The 26-year-old right-hander had a 3.17 ERA and 1.15 WHIP at Low-A Wisconsin in 2019 while striking out 65 and walking 20 in 54 relief innings. By the end of the season, he was touching triple digits with his fastball. Gillies' last cancer treatment was in June of last year, and he is currently cancer-free. His velocity is creeping up and he has resumed working on a curveball, a project that began at the end of the 2019 season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
