Tylor Megill Continues To Gain Fantasy Relevance
3 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill went just 3 2/3 innings pitched in the Mets 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday. Despite the short outing, Megill fanned seven batters, while allowing only one earned run on four hits. Control was the issue on Saturday where Megill also walked three batters. Although it was not his best performance, Megill continues to impress at the major league level. He has now struck out 26 batters over four starts (18 innings pitched), tying the Mets franchise record with Doc Gooden, Matt Harvey, and Dick Selma. In addition, his 33.8% strikeout rate through his first four career games is the second-best in Mets franchise history behind only Nolan Ryan. Megill continues to gain fantasy relevance in all formats. While his ERA of 3.50, a WHIP of 1.28, and a walk rate of 11.7% are less than desirable, his xERA is just 2.23, and his strikeout potential is apparent. Fantasy managers in need of pitching help and strikeouts should be quick to grab Megill if he is available. Given his performance so far, he should remain in the Mets rotation in the second half of the season, even once Carlos Carrasco (hamstring) returns, due to David Peterson's (oblique) timeline to return from the injured list which could be four-to-six weeks.
