Victor Gonzalez To Serve As Opener Thursday
3 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Victor Gonzalez will get the start on Thursday as the opener as the team visits the Washington Nationals. Tony Gonsolin was originally slated to start the game, although it is possible the impending rain delay prompted skipper Dave Roberts to save Gonsolin for a start over the weekend. It doesn't hurt, either, that Gonzalez has a solid 2.10 ERA and 1.25 WHIP on the season with 24 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings pitched. Giving left-handed Gonzalez the start Thursday is also a smart tactic, given that Nationals leadoff man Kyle Schwarber has more success against right-handed pitching. While Gonzalez has nice numbers in relief this year, he's not a recommended fantasy streamer in the opener role.
