6 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Vince Velasquez earned his first win of the season on Wednesday, pitching five scoreless innings while adding six strikeouts against the Mets. The 26-year-old righty allowed three hits and three walks across all five frames, with the only downside coming in the form of his high pitch count. Velasquez managed only 53 strikes in the 97 pitches he threw, and while his tidy 2.55 ERA is encouraging, it’s still tough to trust the five-year starter. Consistency has always been missing from Velasquez’s game, but fantasy owners can take stock in the fact that Wednesday’s win marked his second shutout of the season.--Ryan Cook
