Vince Velasquez Hit Hard By Reds On Monday
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Vince Velasquez allowed six runs in just three innings pitched in a Memorial Day loss to the Reds. Velasquez struggled with his control in this one as he allowed three walks, not ideal in homer-happy Great American Ballpark as Cincinnati tagged him for two homers. Velasquez had been pitching well as his ERA in May had been 1.11 in 24 1/3 innings this month. The 28-year-old righty has the occasional matchup where he should be started, but unless he gets his 14.4 percent walk rate under control Velasquez will be prone to these blow-up starts. He'll try and bounce back in a tough matchup with that Nationals on Sunday.
