5 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Vince Velasquez struck out nine batters and didn't allow a run in 5 2/3 innings against the Tigers Wednesday afternoon. Velasquez allowed four hits and two walks while earning his third win of the season. Fantasy owners who streamed Velasquez in a great matchup were rewarded, but Velasquez remains strictly a deeper league option in fantasy. This start improves his ERA to 4.46 and his xFIP slightly higher at 4.75. He also won't provide innings as he's completed the sixth inning only once in 12 starts this year, including today where he clearly had his best stuff and still only went 5 2/3 innings. All that being said he does have another great matchup lined up in his next scheduled start against the Giants next Wednesday.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
