Vladimir Gutierrez Shuts Down Pittsburgh
3 years agoCincinnati Reds right-hander Vladimir Gutierrez was excellent in an 11-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday. Gutierrez allowed one run over six innings while striking out six and walking one. It was smooth sailing for Gutierrez, whose only mistake was an RBI triple off of the bat of Bryan Reynolds in the third inning. Gutierrez picked up the win, improving his record to 7-3, to go along with a 4.15 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 52 strikeouts over 73 2/3 innings of work. While he doesn't have much strikeout upside, Gutierrez has shown the ability to limit runs and has an explosive Cincinnati lineup behind him. He will take on the Atlanta Braves on the road next time out.
