Washington Reaffirms Alex Smith As Starting QB When Healthy
4 years agoWashington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera may have allowed Dwayne Haskins Jr. to attempt 55 passes in Sunday's loss to Seattle, but Alex Smith (leg) remains the starter for Washington when healthy, per Rivera. The decision was rather succinct too, as Rivera said, "if [Smith is] healthy and ready to roll, he'll start." The start for Haskins marked his first since Week 4, after which he was removed in favor of Kyle Allen, who has since sustained a season-ending ankle injury. As a starter this year, Smith has gone 4-1 for Washington, although his production has been wildly all over the map. No matter who is under center in Week 16 against Carolina, the Washington quarterback will have a favorable matchup versus the Panthers' secondary.
