Washington Signs Joey Slye, Releases Chris Blewitt
3 years agoThe Washington Football Team signed free-agent kicker Joey Slye and released incumbent starter Chris Blewitt in a corresponding move on Tuesday. Slye spent time with the Houston Texans and the San Francisco 49ers before signing with Washington. The 25-year-old went 11-for-13 in field-goal attempts, including 3-for-3 from 50-yards plus, and a perfect 9-for-9 in extra-point attempts over six games in 2021. Slye can be used as a streamer in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who rank 12th against fantasy kickers this season. In Week 7, Washington released Dustin Hopkins for Blewitt, but the team ultimately decided to swap kickers again in Week 10 and sign Slye. The 26-year-old went 2-for-5 in field-goal attempts over two games before being released by Washington. Blewitt will look to latch onto another team.
