Wayne Gallman Looks To Cement Backup Role
5 years agoNew York Giants second-year running back Wayne Gallman carried the ball seven times for 29 yards and a touchdown against the Patriots in the team's final preseason game. It may be odd seeing the Giants supposed backup running back playing in the last preseason game, but Gallman missed the second game with an ankle injury, so it’s likely that the team just wanted him to get some game reps. After backing up Saquon Barkley for all of last year, there’s no reason to think that Gallman has lost the No. 2 job to Rod Smith or Paul Perkins, despite the latter's solid performance in this one. Even if Gallman does hold onto the reserve job, he’s still not a valuable fantasy asset unless Barkley were to get hurt.
