Willie Calhoun Optioned to Triple-A
7 years agoIn a surprise move, Texas Rangers top prospect Willie Calhoun has been sent down to Triple-A Round Rock. Calhoun was penciled in for the starting left field role and had been getting repetitions at second base as well, but the Rangers have opted to give him some time at Round Rock to start the season. The 23-year-old slugger has not had the most productive spring, hitting just one home run with a .243/.282/.324 slash line in 37 at-bats. However, the slugger has been receiving rave reviews from coaches and teammates, and he has little to prove before he gets the chance to face major league pitching. Expect Calhoun to be among the Rangers first call-ups, and the surprise news may serve to depress his draft value.
