7 years agoNew York Mets infielder Wilmer Flores started the spring game in left field for the first time on Saturday. “You saw why he needs to be playing multiple positions because the kid can hit. He can hit really good,” manager Mickey Callaway said after Flores went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and a double. “We need to get him as many at-bats as we can this season.” Flores has dealt with a lot of injuries in the last two seasons, but he's been productive as a utility man when healthy, hitting .270 with 18 home runs and 52 RBI in 110 games in 2017. Adding versatility to his resume should be good for his playing time in the long run, but the unpredictability of when he'll be on the diamond hurts him the most. Flores is best utilized as a platoon guy against lefties in daily and NL-only leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
