6 years agoNew York Mets infielder Wilmer Flores will always have a place in team lore for crying on the field after learning he was “traded” before that trade fell apart and never really happened, only to hit a walk-off home run the next night against the Washington Nationals that started the Mets run to the World Series in 2015. On a tough day for the Mets on Tuesday, Flores added another magical moment. After learning that general manager Sandy Alderson needs to take a leave of absence due to another battle with cancer, Flores came through with a huge walk-off single in the 10th inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates to end the team’s seven-game losing streak. Flores finished 2-for-5 with three RBI on the night, now recording an RBI in four consecutive games and reaching base in 12 straight. There won’t be much fantasy relevance here anytime soon, but it was a great moment for Flores and the Mets nonetheless.--John Smith
