5 years agoBoston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts (ankle) has been progressing nicely after dealing with ankle soreness towards the end of the offseason and could begin to play in spring training games by the end of the week. “[Bogaerts] has been hitting some in the cage. He’s throwing. They’re going to hit him some light ground balls today. I think he’s coming along well,” said Red Sox interim manager Ron Roenicke. The 27-year-old is expected to be ready for Opening Day against the Blue Jays if there aren’t any significant setbacks in the coming weeks. Bogaerts produced a terrific 2019 season and should be one of the first shortstops drafted this spring after posting career highs of 33 home runs, 117 RBI and a .939 OPS, along with 110 runs scored, four stolen bases and a .309 batting average through 155 games.--Denis Vondrus - RotoBaller
