Xander Bogaerts Set To Serve As DH For Friday’s Game
4 years agoBoston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) has been given the green light to make his Grapefruit League debut Friday against Tampa Bay, serving as the designated hitter. The Red Sox do not yet appear comfortable having Bogaerts make throws from short, but placing him among the starting nine is an indication that they expect him to be ramped up in time for Opening Day. An elite option at short in all season-long formats, Bogaerts has delivered a slugging percentage north of .500 in each of the past three years. Since the start of 2018, Bogaerts has hit .300 with a 137 OPS+, serving as the anchor of the Red Sox's lineup. So long as he does not sustain any setbacks during the spring, fantasy managers can keep him pegged as an early-round option in all drafts.
