Yan Gomes Homers Again In Loss To Seattle
3 years agoOakland Athletics catcher Yan Gomes went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in a loss to the Mariners on Monday. Gomes took starter Marco Gonzales deep in the fourth inning for his 12th homer of the season, and third since being traded to the A's on July 31. Gomes would also drive in a run with a groundout. The veteran backstop has been a productive player this season, but he's been splitting time with Sean Murphy behind the plate in Oakland. Murphy was the DH on Monday, so manager Bob Melvin is trying to get both catchers in the lineup, but both Murphy and Gomes have their fantasy appeal capped by each other. Gomes and Murphy are must-start catchers in two-catcher leagues, but managers in one-catcher formats should seek a backstop getting more regular at-bats.
