Yandy Diaz Scratched From Saturday’s Lineup Against Toronto
4 years agoTampa Bay Rays third baseman Yandy Diaz was a late removal from the starting nine Saturday against the Blue Jays and left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu. Diaz was hit in the face during batting practice by an errant ball, forcing Joey Wendle into the lineup, who will man the hot corner in his absence. After going homer-less through his first 24 games, Diaz has gone deep in each of last two contests, raising his average on the year to .300. Normally producing little by way of extra-base hit production, Diaz is a solid season-long contributor, particularly in roto leagues where his on-base percentage (.422) can be valued. His next chance to enter the lineup comes Sunday against Toronto, who has not yet announced a starter.
