Yankees Designate Andrew Heaney For Assignment
3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Andrew Heaney was designated for assignment by the club Tuesday ahead of their Wild Card matchup against the Red Sox. Acquired from the Angels at the trade deadline, Heaney had a rough time in the Bronx, pitching to a 7.32 ERA in 35 2/3 innings, despite flashing solid strikeout ability with 37 punchouts as a Yankee. The southpaw's struggles earned him a demotion to the bullpen- and now he'll be headed for free agency, where a team may take a chance on him in a prove-it deal thanks to his strikeout potential.
