4 years agoChicago White Sox catcher Yermin Mercedes went 5-for-5 on Friday versus the Los Angeles Angels. Mercedes drew the start as the teams designated hitter and didn't disappoint in his season debut. All of his hits were singles and he also drove in a pair of runs to go along with a run scored. Mercedes has always hit the ball in the minor leagues, but is currently in a timeshare with Zack Collins, Leury Garcia and Andrew Vaughn making it difficult for him to get everyday at-bats. With Vaughn likely to secure the everyday left field spot, Mercedes best bet to playing time is likely to come out of the DH spot. Mercedes is worth monitoring in deeper leagues, but managers shouldn't run to the waiver wire right away with his playing time in question.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller
