Yonder Alonso Joining Padres Taxi Squad
4 years agoThe San Diego Padres acquired first baseman Yonder Alonso on Tuesday from the Atlanta Braves for cash. The 33-year-old veteran will rejoin the Friars, who he played with from 2012-2015, and report to the taxi squad. The brother-in-law of Padres third baseman Manny Machado, Alonso will mentor young bats at the alternate site and provide heightened competition for developing arms. Alonso holds a career 102 wRC+ in 10 seasons and had his best campaign in 2017 cracking 28 homers with an .866 OPS. Without a slew of injuries, Alonso doesn’t have a path to the Padres roster and can be ignored in fantasy.
