2 years agoTampa Bay Rays right-hander Yonny Chirinos (elbow) appeared in his first game on Saturday in the Florida Complex League since Aug. 16 of 2020 due to Tommy John surgery, and he tossed a scoreless inning to boot. Chirinos was making a return from elbow reconstruction last year, but that never happened after he fractured his right elbow. He's now trying to make a return in the second half of the 2022 season, and he's off to a good start in his first minor league rehab appearance. The 28-year-old Venezuelan had a 3.85 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP with 114 strikeouts and 28 walks in 133 1/3 innings over 26 appearances (18 starts) for Tampa in his last full season in 2019. Given Chirinos' long layoff, expect the Rays to be very cautious with his workload this year once he returns to the majors.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
