4 years agoTampa Bay Rays right-handed pitcher Yonny Chirinos’ most recent stint on the injured list will be even longer than originally anticipated. Manager Kevin Cash revealed Friday that Chirinos will need to undergo Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow, which will not only end his 2020 season, but 2021 as well. Chirinos has proven himself valuable in any role to Tampa Bay over the past three years, compiling a 3.65 ERA in 47 appearances (28 starts). In the short-term, the team is tabbing Josh Fleming to make a start this weekend against Toronto. Owners in all season-long formats can drop Chirinos to the wire and anticipate a comeback at the start of the 2022 year.--Jesse Borek
