4 years agoHouston Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez will make his season debut Friday against the Mariners and left-hander Yusei Kikuchi, batting fifth in the lineup. Alvarez confirmed prior to first pitch that he had tested positive for COVID-19, which was the reason for his delay in arriving to the team’s alternate training site. After mashing the ball in Corpus Christi and compiling a 1.067 OPS last year, Alvarez immediately becomes a must-own commodity in all season-long formats. Manager Dusty Baker announced that Alvarez would also serve as the DH on Saturday against southpaw Nick Margevicius, with Michael Brantley claiming the spot Sunday.--Jesse Borek
