Yu Darvish To Start On Opening Day For Padres
3 years agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Yu Darvish has been tabbed as the team's Opening Day starter on April 7 on the road against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Joe Musgrove will likely be on the hill for the second game of the regular season. Darvish, 35, has looked good in spring training, allowing just one run and no walks while striking out 10 in seven innings over two Cactus League starts. The Japanese right-hander struggled last year with the Friars and dealt with some injuries, ultimately finishing with a 4.22 ERA and 1.09 WHIP over 166 1/3 innings over 30 starts. But if Darvish can stay healthy in 2022, he could turn out to be an excellent fantasy value, even at his age. He had a healthy 29.2% strikeout rate and a 6.5% walk rate last season.
