7 years agoHouston Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel (hand) will be cleared to begin defensive drills in his rehab process, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Hinch told reporters, "He's starting to do a little bit more...He's not close to hitting, but he'll put a glove on his hand and start to do some defensive stuff." Gurriel is still recovering from surgery on his left hand and is not expected back for another month or so. The "not close to hitting" comment from Hinch may be disappointing, but the fact that Gurriel is on the field is a step in the right direction. When he returns to the field, there will be healthy skepticism at first as to whether Gurriel can repeat his productive numbers from last season.--Joey C - RotoBaller
